Our community reporters are from the same target community that we have focussed on since inception.

Reporters are drawn from the communities of local villagers and migrant workers. We give a decided preference to women to encourage them and others like them to step out and become broadcasters.

We encourage diversity in caste, class and religion, which can sometimes be challenging to achieve when our team of reporters is as small as 3.

Our team currently consists of:

Sharmila: Station Manager: from village Budhera on the outskirts of Gurgaon, Sharmila was a trained community health worker with St Stephens Hospital rural outreach program in village Dhankot and surrounding villages. In 2009, at inception stage St Stephens selected Sharmila to train as a radio reporter and specialise in producing health programs.

In 2011, when St Stephens closed their rural health services in Dhankot, Sharmila moved full time to Gurgaon Ki Awaaz as a reporter. In 2018, she took over as Station Manager.

Preeti: Reporter: from village Jharsa, Preeti joined Gurgaon Ki Awaaz as an intern while she was still in college. On graduating she joined the team as a full time reporter.

Pooja: Reporter: originally from Uttarakhand, Pooja joined Gurgaon Ki Awaaz as an intern. After 6 months of dedicated work she joined the team as a full time reporter.

Arti: Station Director: a resident of Gurgaon since 1994, Arti led the process of applying for a community radio license for our parent NGO The Restoring Force, and then led the process of setting up the radio station from the ground up.
